Filipino home cooking meets Windsor Street

From market stall
to your new local.

A’s Cafe is Aissa and JC’s corner of Windsor Street: sisig bao buns, ube custard tart, proper cheese rolls and locally roasted coffee, made by two Filipino home cooks who started at the market.

Our story

Twenty coffees a day to keep the lights on

Aissa and JC Querol are passionate Filipino home cooks who started A’s as a popular market stall. When they opened the little shop on Windsor Street, they worked out they’d need to sell 20 coffees a day just to keep the lights on. The Press covered what happened next: they’re now selling about 70.

The menu mixes Kiwi cafe classics with the food they grew up on. Cheese rolls next to chicken sisig, custard slices next to ube tart, and every coffee pulled on hand crafted, fair trade ROAR espresso roasted here in Southland.

We've been on a cheese roll roll and this roll is a win! Enjoyed a coffee and a gooey cheesy snack in the sun. Lovely attentive staff and a great flat white! Awesome addition to Windsor st to sit and watch the old ladies cruising by in their little compact cars 😂 10/10
